Meet Our Hosts

Get to know a little bit more about some of the Hosts we have at Soneva Jani.

Adil Ali - Resident Astronomer

Growing up on a nearby island in the Noonu Atoll, Adil has been visiting Medhufaru island since he was a boy, as his uncle used to own the island when it was a farm and a place for smoking fish. Adil joined Soneva as a Eco Centro Team Leader, but he followed his passion for astronomy and now shares the secrets of the sky and Maldivian folklore with our guests.

Chef Allauddin Ansari - Executive Chef

Chef Allauddin, from India, has 18 years of experience, having recently been the Executive Chef at Loama Resort Maldives. He has worked in India, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and the Maldives. Chef Allauddin’s career started at Soneva Gili where he was the Executive Sous Chef for nine years. He specialises in destination dining, Asian and Mediterranean cuisine, and wine dinners.

Eleanor Butler - Marine Biologist

Eleanor (or Ellie) completed her studies in MSc Tropical Biology, spanning four countries, across three continents. This is when she discovered her love for coral biology, resulting in a thesis on heat stress in branching corals. Following this, Ellie was granted the opportunity to work for Soneva - whose ethos on sustainability was a dream come true! Working here has a long list of positives, but what Ellie finds the most fulfilling is sharing her passion with others. With knowledge comes power, and she believes this is the key to preserving the future of our fascinating, yet vulnerable, underwater world.

Fathimath Ihumath- Housekeeping Coordinator

Fathimath loves working at Soneva because of the resorts' sustainable and eco-friendly practices. She enjoys working with her team as they are the backbone of the resort and are very supportive, even though she is the only woman in the team. Fathimath is very ambitious and hopes to be the head of her department or the head of a property. 

Fathimath Shaazleen - Resort Manager

Shaaz began her career as a telephone operator after she passed her diploma in hospitality with distinction. In 2000 she joined Soneva Fushi in guest relations, two years later, Soneva introduced Mr. and Ms. Fridays and she was promoted to Friday Supervisor. She left Soneva in 2004, and rejoined in 2009 at Soneva Kiri as Rooms Division Manager. After moving back to the Maldives she was offered the position of Resort Manager at Soneva Jani, where she hopes to inspire more women and work towards becoming the first female GM in the Maldives.

Chef Gaston Amadeuz Fajardo Susli - Chef de Cuisine

Chef Gaston joined Soneva Jani in December 2017, after working in some of the best restaurants in Lima, Spain and Bolivia. He manages a full Peruvian menu at The Director's Cut by Gaston every evening at Cinema Paradiso, making it the first Peruvian restaurant in the Maldives. His specialty is Peruvian ceviche, paired with creative Peruvian-inspired cocktails.

Gordon Jackson - Area Waste-to-Wealth Manager, Maldives

Gordon heads up Soneva's Waste-to-Wealth initiative and oversees Eco Centro. At Eco Centro Gordon and his team work to find new and innovative ways to recycle and reuse the waste produced by Soneva, such as by composting, making bio char and coconut oil.

Ishaamath Ahmed - Assistant Human Resources Manager

Ishaamath looks after Hosts and is involved in the Women in Soneva Programme, which encourages more Maldivian women to work in hospitality, while also ensuring that they feel comfortable working in the industry. Currently, women make up 8% of the national average workforce in Maldivian hospitality. Soneva Jani has a target of 30%, and Soneva is constantly pushing to empower women to work in the industry. 

Chef Ranadewa - Senior Sous Chef

Chef Ranadewa is a household name at Soneva Fushi, where he spent  20 years, until he was in charge of the resort’s Asian restaurant, serving authentic Indian, Sri Lankan, Thai and Maldivian cuisine. He also manages and oversees the In-Villa Dining kitchen, while collaborating with the Executive Chef on designing new F&B experiences.

Chef Zuhair - Head Chef, Zuhair's Restaurant

Chef Zuhair cooks Maldivian food in the traditional way, using a lot of fish and coconut. At Zuhair's, he only uses ingredients that he can catch and forage on the island. Food and culture is a big part of Soneva, and it is still unusual to have a restaurant dedicated to national cuisine in the Maldives. He wants guests to experience how Maldivians cook at home and the authentic flavours of the cuisine.
